چکیده

Mediterranean basin and other citrus-growing areas, such as Florida or California, are among the most vulnerable regions to impacts of global warming. Therefore, citrus will be likely subjected increasing periods water scarcity combined with high temperatures that impair plant growth, development yield. In industry, grafting is used improve varietal characteristics, abiotic stress tolerance. Previous research showed under drought heat conditions, Carrizo citrange (Poncirus trifoliata × Citrus sinensis) a better rootstock than Cleopatra mandarin (Citrus reshni) because it induces higher antioxidant activity on scion, reducing oxidative damage Here, shown metabolic reconfiguration, including changes in carbohydrate amino acid fluxes, key responses for acclimation conditions. Moreover, importance scion hormonal combination has been addressed by using reciprocal between genotypes. Thus, improves response scions inducing accumulation protective compounds raffinose, galactinol salicylic acid. turn, reduces levels galactinol, proline, phenylalanine tryptophan scions, which impairs tolerance combination. Our findings show effect remark plants exposed harsh environmental

Modulation of Antioxidant Defense System Is Associated with Combined Drought and Heat Stress Tolerance in Citrus

Drought and high temperatures are two major abiotic stress factors that often occur simultaneously in nature, affecting negatively crop performance and yield. Moreover, these environmental challenges induce oxidative stress in plants through the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Carrizo citrange and Cleopatra mandarin are two citrus genotypes with contrasting ability to cope with the...

Grafting cucumber onto luffa improves drought tolerance by increasing ABA biosynthesis and sensitivity

Balancing stomata-dependent CO2 assimilation and transpiration is a key challenge for increasing crop productivity and water use efficiency under drought stress for sustainable crop production worldwide. Here, we show that cucumber and luffa plants with luffa as rootstock have intrinsically increased water use efficiency, decreased transpiration rate and less affected CO2 assimilation capacity ...

Different adaptation strategies of two citrus scion/rootstock combinations in response to drought stress

Scion/rootstock interaction is important for plant development and for breeding programs. In this context, polyploid rootstocks presented several advantages, mainly in relation to biotic and abiotic stresses. Here we analyzed the response to drought of two different scion/rootstock combinations presenting different polyploidy: the diploid (2x) and autotetraploid (4x) Rangpur lime (Citrus limoni...

Stay-Green and Associated Vegetative Indices to Breed Maize Adapted to Heat and Combined Heat-Drought Stresses

The objective of this study was to assess the importance of stay-green on grain yield under heat and combined heat and drought stress and to identify the associated vegetative indices allowing higher throughput in order to facilitate the identification of climate resilient germplasm. Hybrids of tropical and subtropical adaptation were evaluated under heat and combined heat and drought stress in...

Virus infection improves drought tolerance.

Viruses are obligate intracellular symbionts. Plant viruses are often discovered and studied as pathogenic parasites that cause diseases in agricultural plants. However, here it is shown that viruses can extend survival of their hosts under conditions of abiotic stress that could benefit hosts if they subsequently recover and reproduce. Various plant species were inoculated with four different ...
